Melanie is a sculptor and artist. Her life-size screen wire goddesses have adorned the halls of galleries throughout California. Her artworks are part of several prominent private collections.
Being diagnosed with a terminal illness would have disrupted most, but Melanie has taken to her aesthetic work with a redoubled vigor. She sees beauty everywhere in the world and has a great deal more to share. Already, she has outlived what was a dim prognosis and is now expected to continue her work for years to come. Melanie takes her inspiration from a myriad of sources, such as the industrial landscape around her, flowers and the storied faces of people she meets and knows. You can usually find her in her Inglewood studio at 1019 West Art studios or conversing with trees on her daily walks. Melanie works in wire, clay, hand carves stone, casts resin, paints, and most recently draws like she sculpts with pen and marker. photo credit: Ifusha Kalina |
